Imam Khomeini International Airport is the first international airport in Tehran, the capital city of Iran which is located 30 kilometers south of the city. Currently this airport includes 3 terminals which only terminal 1 is usable and terminal 2 (salam terminal) and terminal 3 (iranshahr terminal) are respectively being constructed and planned to be constructed. Central building of this airport includes 4 floors has the ability to serve all incoming and outgoing passengers.
Currently, there are about 8 million passengers a year using this airport, which according to evaluations, with launching of other terminals this statistics will be doubled. Terminal 1, now has the ability to manage 6.5 to 7 million passengers and something about 120 thousand tons of luggage.

Access to Imam Khomeini International Airport
With regard to that the airport of Imam Khomeini is the first and the main airport in Tehran, there are several ways to achieve it.
  • Subway (line 8)
    • Taxi (Snap or call numbers 1804, 1828, 1833 from anywhere in Tehran)
    • Private car (via Tehran-Qom Freeway and Tehran-Saveh Freeway)
    • Buses (using Mehrabad airport buses)
Note: No matter which method you use to reach the international airport of Imam Khomeini, be careful about the distance between airport from city and heavy traffic that always can be seen in the streets of Tehran!

Currently, the rail link from this airport to other parts of Iran has not been activated. But in the near future a Tehran-Qom-Isfahan Express train will be launched. Currently, the track is under construction.

Currently, transportation companies, Tehran taxi cabs and luxury taxis are serving the transportation of passengers. To use the services of each of these companies, you can go to the dedicated kiosk at the airport. Each of these companies has a different prices depending on the type of car (Toyota Camry, Volkswagen Caddy, Van and Toyota Rav4) and your destination. These taxis are operated 24 hours a day, with passenger insurance.

To get to  the airport , you can use the subway line8, which was recently launched in 1396. The first subway station is to get to the shahre aftab exhibition, which is about 35 minutes from the airport. The ticket price for this line from the subway per person is 7500 toman.

If you do not hurry to reach your destination, you can use the public bus transportation. Imam Khomeini airport buses run from Terminal 4 of Mehrabad airport every hour. This bus stops along its path in Azadi Square and the holy shrine of Imam Khomeini.

Parking
currently, the Imam Khomeini Airport includes 2 types of parking: without roof and roofed. Totally 5 parking spaces of this airport have the capacity of 13thousand cars.
Note: If you intend to park the car for a long time at the airport, using roofed one otherwise without roof. Because the price for these two types of parking are different and the without roof parking is cheaper!

13% Decline in Iran Airport Traffic

I ran Airports Company registered 30,635 takeoffs and landings during the second month of the current Iranian year (April 21-May 21), which shows a 13% decline compared with the similar period of last year. More than 3.74 million passengers and 35,208 tons of cargos were transported during the period, indicating a 12% and 10% decline respectively year-on-year, IAC's latest data published on its website show. The latest IAC report also shows 25,854 takeoffs and landings were made by domestic flights during the month, down 12% compared with the similar period of last year.
